Armorica Fermented Cod Liver Oil is made in the UK, with Atlantic Cod (gadus morhua) caught in the North Sea/ Atlantic Ocean and produced with an all-natural extraction method. The oil is pure and unadulterated.
By fermenting small batches of fresh cod livers, the nutritious oil is gently released where it can be easily filtered off. This avoids the need for harsh chemicals, long storage times, and damaging conditions that can reduce the quality of the oil.
By using this gentle extraction method, Armorica Fermented Cod Liver Oil contains all the nutrients found in cod liver oil in their natural state. The omega-3 fatty acids are in their natural triglyceride form, and the vitamins are all naturally occurring in the oil. No synthetic vitamins are added.
Additionally, Armorica Fermented Cod Liver Oil contains a whole host of other nutrients that are naturally present in cod liver oil. These include a wide range of healthy poly-unsaturated fats, lesser-known omega-3 fatty acids such as DPA and much more.
The capsules are made using a seaweed extract, which reduces unwanted repeating ‘fishy’ flavours by delaying the release of the oil.

Origin of Armorica Fermented Cod Liver Oil

When Northern Europe was inhabited by Celtic tribes, it was common to ferment foods. Fish were often fermented to produce nourishing sauces, similar to sauces made in Asia today. Some recipes called for specific organs of certain fish to be fermented. This produced a high quality and strength-giving sauce, and it is this same technique that we use to produce our fermented cod liver oil.
One region in Brittany, which juts out into the Atlantic Ocean, was renowned for producing the best quality sauce. It even maintained this reputation throughout the Roman expansion into Europe. This area in Brittany was called Armorica, and it is this region that inspired our product and our brand.

Me and my family have been taking fermented cod liver oil for years, and so it is nice to see an alternative brand. I’m not a fan of the flavour of the liquid products, so am happy these are capsules.

  2. A. Muller

Happy to be supporting UK fisheries. Seems like a good product too.

  3. Vijay

No fishy aftertaste or repeating flavours!

  4. Ann

Nice looking product, and a great alternative to some high end cod liver oils. Nice to see they are environmentally concious, but just wish they were a tad cheaper!

  5. S. Wilks

very helpful and knowledgeable – thank you. I will be back (and with more questions, I’m sure).

  6. Gaz

Very different to other cod liver oils. The beeswax makes the oil virtually a solid, so it looks different to other cod liver oil. Bit strange. Not sure why its not in a gelcap like other cod liver oil. No fishy after taste though, which I am pleased about.

great to have a European brand.

  9. Calamaine

A capsule leaked in my bottle and made a few capsules sticky. I contacted armorica and was sent a replacement. No problems with replacement, and they were very apologetic. No sure how common a leaky capsule is, but no harm done.

The product itself is great and just what I wanted, however, this is not the whole reason for a 5 star review. I have spoken to many of the ‘top brands’ of cod liver oil (I won’t mention brand names), and all of them say how great theirs is, and how others aren’t as good, or even are fake!

When I found Armorica I emailed them about their product etc. I was amazed that they were quite happy to discuss their pros and cons, and even discuss pros of other brands. It was refreshing to have questions answered honestly and not having their own product pushed down my throat as others have done. Not every product is all singing and dancing.

So a good product, but a lovely and honest bunch, that seems to know cod liver oil inside and out. Thank you for all the help.

I generally don’t like cod liver oil. It always repeated (yuk!) and felt a chore to take. This is completely different. I’ve not had a single problem (other than a capsule leaked in mine too). Tastes ok, easy to take, no coming back up and my body loves it. I’ve recommended it to my teeth healing therapist.
